Help make Godalming a plastic bag free town

by joining in with the

PLASTIC BAG FREE MONTH

            JUNE 2008

Let's try and make JUNE 2008 the month that we don’t accept any plastic bags from shops.

For one month, see if you can refuse (politely) all offers of
plastic bags when you buy something.

Try carrying a small fold up bag with you at all times
so that you don’t need a bag.

If you do a supermarket shop, try to use cardboard boxes,
or strong reusable bags.

If you are interested in participating in this, visit
www.godalmingplasticbagfree.co.uk

It would be great if you could register your interest by emailing
info@godalmingplasticbagfree.co.uk

You don’t have to register to participate, but at the end of June maybe you could tell us how you got on.  We are interested in success and failure!  And the best story about going plastic bag free for one month will win an Onya bag.

Godalming Ethical Matters Group

Do you have concerns that the products you buy may:-

contain ingredients which will do you no good?

have been produced in an environmentally unfriendly manner?

have been produced in a way which exploits the workers?

have caused suffering to animals?

be in non-recyclable packaging?

but who has the time to research everything we buy?

On our own we can feel powerless, but together we can achieve much.

Why not join this informal monthly group to explore these issues? It usually meets on the first Wednesday of the month.

The next meeting is:

tbc

Freedom Clothing Project

Generous town recommends Freedom Clothing project.

"Freedom Clothing Project is a co-operative set up to source excellent quality ethically produced products for customers. We can source products made using FLO certified fairtrade cotton, certified organic cotton, European (industrial) hemp, linen, and bamboo fabric amoungst other materials.

We work with small producers giving work to people where they really need it, and larger producers where conditions are good. We are a completely open source brand - so you can know more about how your merchandise is produced than from any other brand."

Purchasing the ethically produced organic t-shirts and hoodies made in Gaza and the West Bank from this not for profit organisation is one way to support textile workers in Palestine.
